Acton Bridge Community Association (ABCA) will be putting on a Quiz Night on Friday 28. November at 8 pm. It's at the Parish Rooms, entry costs just £2 per person, and there will be a Bar and Raffle. Teams can be of up to six persons, and can be made up on the night. Contact 01606 853125 for tickets, and enjoy the fun!

Acton Bridge has won the Best Kept Village Improvement Award at the prestigious "Vibrant Villages" competition. The pictures show Hazel Bayley and Judy Pardoe (photo above, courtesy of "Cheshire Life") receiving the plaque; and (below) the award in situ on our new flower-bed at the corner of Station Road.

September saw the Acton Bridge Village Show with lots of exhibits and visitors to the Parish Rooms - click on the link for some photos from this successful event.

Acton Bridge Parish Council has produced a map of footpaths and bridleways in the village. These are being made available free of charge through local outlets such as the pubs and shops in the neighbourhood. You can also get one by post - click here for details.

We've also put up a page listing grid references for these footpaths and bridleways, for the benefit of GPS users, and we hope to publish some itineraries shortly.

An Automatic Weather Station has been set up in the village - you can access weather reports and links to other weather sites here.

A page has been added to the website listing recent HomeWatch alerts from Northwich Police.

Acton Bridge village has adopted a corner of the road by the Station to build a flower bed. Click here to see some pictures of this new feature being built. Volunteers have carried out more work on the Station platform flower beds and the car park. If you would be willing to help, please come along on the first Saturday morning of each month - see the linked page for details.

Campaigns and planning

It now looks as though the threatened NPL Pipeline will not be passing through Acton Bridge. The Parish Council received a letter from the developer, NPL Estates, confirming that their proposed northerly route through the village has been abandoned ; and then they announced in November 2008 that they wish to postpone Cheshire County Council's hearing of their planning application.

The proposal to build a wind 'farm' at Aston, on the opposite bank of the river Weaver, went to Appeal by Planning Inquiry, despite being overwhelmingly refused by Vale Royal's full Borough Council on 30. November 2006. To our great relief the Appeal was dismissed on 5. November 2008, after some three years of campaigning by local residents, and politicians of all parties. The huge generators (over 400 feet tall - comparable to Blackpool Tower) would have been visible and audible from several parts of Acton Bridge, and all the neighbouring villages.
